One of the leader’s more enjoyable challenges is creating a positive work environment that provides people with a safe, professional work area with unlimited opportunities to grow within their job and the organization. Whether it is an office setting, a research lab, prototype facility or production floor, many of the challenges are similar but deployed differently. Most people enjoy going to work if they know that their work is valued. By providing as much latitude and flexibility, it appreciably increases the benefits of such a work environment. The following nine approaches will facilitate creating such a work environment by:
1. Encouraging individual and team success through innovative thinking, empowerment, and growth.
2. Encouraging individuals to seek additional training and education to grow individually and professionally.
3. Eliminating bottlenecks.
4. Promoting the highest level of ethical and professional behavior.
5. Prohibiting racist, sexist, and unethical behavior.
6. Providing multiple opportunities for individuals to discuss their ideas, concerns, opinions, and frustrations.
7. Coaching and mentoring as often as possible.
8. Finding the right fit between job and individual skills and talents.
9. Avoiding pitfalls that can undermine the goal of building a strong positive work environment.
