Bullying

August 6, 2023

In this day and age there are unfortunately multiple types of bullying. There is cyberbullying which is a digital form of harassment, there is physical bullying in which case the bully will intentionally cause mental harm, fear, or embarrassment to the victim.

I have found that many others believe that students with harsh parents are often more prone to being bullies, however in some cases it can be the exact opposite. It is true that some bullies are formed based on anger from their family life, but some may be formed by their parents spoiling their children, and never disciplining them. Many adolescents these days lack the ability to regret what they are doing because they get away with it.

Schools are supposed to have strict policies in their rules to protect children from bullying, but the horrible truth is that oftentimes the school does not know about the bullying behind the scenes. Many students who are bullied do not often tell anyone out of embarrassment, but as a parent some signs to look for according to https://www.ncab.org.au/bullying-advice/bullying-for-parents/signs-of-bullying/ include:

  • Frequent crying, or anger
  • Mood swings
  • Feelings of anxiety
  • Lack of interest in school
  • Aggressive behaviors
  • Continually ‘losing’ money or stealing money

Parents can look out for these signs and consider talking to their child about them. If needed parents may also want to invest in a therapist to help them cope with what they may have experienced. Parents may also want to look into schedule/class changes for their student and should also consider talking to the principal of the school for your student’s safety. If things continue, then it might be time to take legal action to ensure the bullying stops.
